This year has been slow for me, mostly because I am not getting out as much because of a new addition to my family (2 boys now). I found the Buffalo nickle (in excellent condition), and the SLQ at an old home on 400 South. The quarter was under the gravel, which I usually don't event try to detect (it was close enough to the grass that I "hit" it). That's why it is beat up so much. The seated lady was also found in the gravel of a very old church site in the country. It is not as beat up, likely because the site was abandoned before automobiles became common. I don't know where I found the indian cent, I ran across it when I was checking about 100 of my uncleaned cents that I thought were all wheat cents. Yea, I sanded it lightly so that it wouldn't look like a black disk. If they are not in great shape, I like them better that way, and I'm the one who has to look at them.

After 3-4 years of trying to find a certain old location, my efforts finally payed off. My boy and I were out on the hunt when I found this beautiful ancient (for Indiana) coin. I hope to disclose more information about this find, and the story behind it after I am sure that I have checked the area thoroughly. I have good reason to believe that there may be more coins from this era in a difficult to reach spot at this location. I can't just go and try to find more without doing some footwork and modest investment first. What a thrill it was to find this!

A thought from an on-line aquaintance (Jack-IN) led me to investigate a location at Memorial Park in Huntington. I have hunted this park to death, mostly because I keep finding stuff here from time to time. Well, this particular location was hunted less by me, because I thought that it was developed more recently (in the last 30 years or so). My assumption was wrong though, since these two nice coins popped out in about an hour of looking. I kicked myself for scratching the 2 cent piece (I should know better). I was also very pleased to find my first half dime! It sounded like junk to my metal detector, but it was a nice day, was 4-5 inches deep, and fortunately for me I was not being too particular on what I tried to recover.

A friend at work gave me the silver quarter that he was fortunate to get in change (thanks Michael). My father-in-law gave me the Buffalo nickle that he found on the floor while replacing his cabinets (thank's Dad). I found the Pontiac token at a park in Huntington. I haven't been going out much recently (deadlines at work, and then I changed where I work)...
